First Post: Why I write
To put it simply, I am making use of a modern media outlet to voice non-believers' opinions. Religious folk own millions of churches, several national television channels, and plenty of political support. It is only fair that the religious are challenged just as every other belief system is. Christianity runs rampant within the western world, especially here in the United States. This blog, along with many others, shall serve to promote social freedom, debunk myths concerning science and atheists, and challenge god himself (god = relgion/faith, Christianity mostly). Personally, I see this whole religion ordeal as a gentlemen's challenge. Whoever wins the debates, finds the most evidence, and provides superior logic shall be the victor. We are seeing a decline in Christianity and organized religion within the very regions who (for so long) harbored such faith. Is "God" dying? If so, then this blog shall assist in pushing that blade of reason through God's unseen heart and aiding those in doubt. Knowledge, reason, stamina, and intuitive thought will be our greatest tools. You believers can stick to your old books and faith. Let us see who wins the challenge.

Sounds good. We do indeed need more and more atheistic bloggers.
ReplyDeleteLong term, we will prevail. I have a feeling that 200 to 300 years from now, people will look at the Abrahamaic texts with a raised eyebrow, the same way we look at the Greek gods today.
ReplyDeleteThe biggest problem with Religion v. Science is that while Science continually uncovers new marvels and new understandings of the nature of the Universe, Religion is still peddling the exact same thing.
Agreed. Religion, while it may give some people comfort, typically looks for a fight and more people to proselytize. It often promises (hollow words really) the same the thing as you said, but when people see both sides of the argument they will collectively become more skeptical. The more facts, science, education, reason-related writings, information, etc. that are put out there, the more tools people will have to dig out the truth. That's the job we non-believers have. Spread facts, debunk misconceptions and myths, and live by honorable example. More and more people are disbelieving in most industrialized nations, and the churches have been losing members by the bulk. My generation is even weaker religiously than the previous, and the internet is a perfect medium to look for information. Religion is losing, stastically anyway. Look at Estonia, most people who believe in god over there barely care anyhow. America will be like that in about 80 years at this rate (and that's a generous number for the theists).
